Specific actions

Since the approval of the Climate Plan and with the Declaration of the climate emergency, the City Council and city residents have been developing a series of actions to respond to the established objectives.

These are proposals linked to adaptation, mitigation and climate justice that stem from actions related to the public highway and mobility, energy-related measures, actions to promote food sovereignty, waste reduction and awareness-raising of climate change, among others.

Notable among them are:

Climate shelters

Heatwaves

Preparing the city and making it more resilient in the face of rising global temperature is a line of action included in the Climate Emergency Action Plan.

Climate justice

formacio

The population of Barcelona is especially vulnerable to climate change. Therefore, in addition to addressing the reduction of emissions, adaptation and climate justice measures must be implemented.

Travelling exhibition: Barcelona responds to the climate emergency

Climate subsidies

This call for subsidy applications is aimed at encouraging projects that promote the fight against the climate crisis and which provide solutions for achieving the goals established under the Climate Plan and the Climate Emergency Declaration.

Refuge Schools

Barcelona City Council has received funding from Urban Innovation Action (UIA), a European Commission programme as part of the ‘Adapting schools to climate change through green, blue and grey’ project. The project proposes initiatives in eleven schools through a package of blue measures (incorporating water points), green measures (spaces for shade and vegetation) and grey measures (works on buildings to improve insulation).

Climate Emergency Marathon

af generic x

A total of seventy-two municipal buildings and facilities across all the city's districts will be taking part in the Marathon throughout the whole of February. This means that the people who work in them or use the facilities will have to pay extra attention to their water and energy consumption, and reduce or recycle the waste they produce.

Green Rooftops

coberta verda

The first invitation to tender for green roofs was launched in 2017, to promote the creation of green roofs on residential buildings and on education and health-care facilities and other buildings.

Farmers Markets

mercat pages

Farmers markets are spaces for the direct sale of products in the city's squares and streets, where the producers sell their own products and where we can purchase seasonal produce that is fresh, local, more socially and environmentally just, and also more healthy.

Environmental Classrooms

aula ambiental

These are environmental education and information spaces, located in civic centres in different neighbourhoods or districts of Barcelona. The environmental classrooms organise activities, visits and workshops; they offer resources and spaces for members of the public and, in short, promote environmental education and a culture of sustainability through the participation of local residents.

Energy Advice Points

on pots anar a informar te

The energy advice points (PAE) are universal facilities aimed at and used by all members of the public where information is given on how to reduce energy consumption and how to avoid the disconnection of supplies.

Superblocks

superilla

The Superblocks programme brings benefits to Barcelona that include sustainable mobility, spaces gained for peaceful squares and spaces, social inclusion, urban greenery and biodiversity, optimised use of smart resources and management.

Low Emissions Zone

jornada zbe

The Barcelona Ring Roads Low Emission Zone is an area of over 95 km2 that includes Barcelona and the municipalities surrounding the ring roads. where restrictions on the use of the most polluting vehicles are gradually being introduced. This is one of the municipal measures to safeguard the quality of the air we breathe and guarantee the right to health in the city.

Women and Climate
